April

Rice shortage is being experience today even it is harvesting season in some other places. China, Malaysia, Indonesia and Vietnam as major rice exporters have controlled their rice exports to sustain their country’s needs of rice.
Rice is one of the people’s staple food. Such a news about rice shortage is alarming especially in the lower and middle classes of societies where rice is the primary food on their tables and don’t have the capacity to support a month stock.
It is obvious that most of the agricultural land where rice is being planted or an arable land that could be converted into rice plantation were transformed into industrial facilities. During the past decades, though there had been news also about rice shortage, the rice shortage today is far chaotic. This is because the population have doubled or even tripled and lands suppose to be used in planting rice were converted into industrial facilities, recreation areas like golf courses and others were transformed into subdivisions and other housing projects.
The population is rapidly growing and arable lands continue to lessen. What do we expect? Rice shortage is only the first problem to appear at this time. There are other problems that may arise in which a result of these rice plantations being taken for granted.
