Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan felicitated Oscar winner Resul Pookutty of the 'Slumdog Millionaire' fame here last evening. The function was organised by Western India Motion Picture and TV Soundngineers Association. Pookutty, who hails from Kerala's Kollam district, shared the Sound Mixing Oscar with Ian Tapp and Richard Pryke for his work in the Danny Boyle's film "Slumdog Millionaire".

Forget the Oscars, the biggest Indian winners of the Slumdog Millionaire fairytale are two of the film's child actorsplucked from the shanty towns of Mumbai, after it emerged they are to be given "free homes" by the state government.

The made-in-India Slumdog Millionaire won eight Oscars this year, including the Academy Awards for best picture and best director.

Riding on the waves of post-Oscar fame, Slumdog Millionaire rose over the weekend to be the number one film across the globe, grossing $27 million, nearly $12.5 million of the total gross came from the United States where it is playing in nearly 3000 movie houses. The worldwide gross for the film now stands at about $210 million.
