Aircel, a joint venture between Malaysia's Maxis Communications and Apollo Hospital Enterprise, is all set to launch its GSM services in Delhi today. In the next phase, the company said plans to introduce the service in Mumbai as well as eastern and western parts of Uttar Pradesh.

India’s 5th largest Telecom service provider Aircel marked its formal entry into the Southern Indian state Karnataka by launching GSM mobile services in Bangalore on Monday. Aircel will invest Rs 1,100 crore over the next year to set up base stations across the state.

Aircel, India’s fifth largest mobile service provider, on Wednesday announced its tie-up with the Canada-based Research In Motion (RIM) to offer blackberry smart phones and services in India.

The British biggies INQ are now entering Indian phone market with  two models , INQ Mini 3G and INQ Chat 3G. Aircel is currently tied up with release.Both the models are pre-loaded with most of the social networking sites such as Facebook, Twitter etc. Many VOIP services such as Skype, Windows Live messenger, are also inbuild in these models.

Sistema Shyam Teleservices Ltd (SSTL) has launched its high speed data service MBlaze under its mobile telephony arm MTS. The service comes bundled with free use of a few select web sites.

In a move that could trigger another tariff war among mobile operators, Anil Ambani-led Reliance Communication today launched GSM services in Mumbai and offered free talk-time worth Rs 900 spread over three months.“New subscribers would get Rs 10 talk-time every day for the first 90 days and has offered tariffs of Re one a minute for local calls and STD would cost Rs 1.50 per minute on any network,” Dinesh Gulati, head of Western region, said.

Reliance Communications, the Indian mobile operator, has launched a new tariff plan for its GSM prepaid subscribers. The tariff which costs Rs 45 per month enables subscribers to make calls anywhere in India for just Rs 0.50.
