Seven people have been killed after a roadside bomb exploded near a van carrying civilians in eastern Afghanistan, officials said.Nine others were wounded in the incident which happened in Sabari district in Khost province, the officials added.

A British Tornado fighter jet crashed at a major NATO base in southern Afghanistan on Monday, officials said, the third aircraft mishap in as many days as foreign forces press their new offensives against the Taliban.

US President Barack Obama declared in an interview that the United States was open to reaching out to moderate elements of the Taliban in Afghanistan and, possibly, Pakistan, in continuation of its policy with Sunni militias in Iraq. He, however, added that the war in Afghanistan was much more complicated and that the US was not winning so far.
