The General Elections to fill the 545 seats in the Lok Sabha, the lower house of the Indian Parliament, is the largest such democratic exercise undertaken anywhere in the world. Nearly half a billion votes were cast in thousands of polling stations around the country during the elections spread over five phases in the 28 states and 7 union territories in the country.
