Curfew has been clamped in parts of Uttar Pradesh’s Meerut district after two groups clashed and indulged in arson and vandalism, leaving nearly 20 people injured, police said Wednesday.

Curfew was imposed in two more towns of Jammu on Sunday to prevent a flare up in communal tension as the agitation for the return of land to the Amarnath shrine entered its eleventh day.
Udhampur and Rajouri were put under curfew after arson and stone-pelting injured six persons on Saturday night.

Curfew was relaxed on Tuesday in Punjab's industrial hub Ludhiana as the city and the rest of the state remained normal in the last 24 hours, officials said.

With no incidents of violence reported in the last two days, the district administration has lifted curfew from all parts of Ludhiana.

With communal violence spreading to many more areas of Hyderabad city and miscreants killing another man on Tuesday, the authorities have clamped curfew in the limits of eight more police stations.

Tension has again mounted in the area surrounding Lalgarh since Friday afternoon as a former CPM local committee memberwas murdered in Belpahari and the district administration imposed curfew at Bejdanga and four more neighbouring villages in the Lalgarh-Sarenga border since morning.

HYDERABAD: The situation in riot-hit old city of Hyderabad Tuesday remained peaceful barring minor incidents of violence even as an indefinite curfew continued, police said. Over a hundred people have so far been arrested in connection with various incidents since the tension started.

The communal clashes yesterday spread to more areas in the old city of Hyderabad as police clamped ban on gathering of five or more people and deployed additional forces to bring the situation under control.

With the arrest of two people, the Ludhiana Rural Police claim to have busted a gang involved in manufacturing and circulating fake currency.
