The Kolkata police today had a harrowing time when Union Minister for Renewable Energy Farooq Abdullah, who enjoys Z-plus security, gave them the slip at the Kolkata airport and took a taxi to reach the IIT Centre at Salt Lake where he took part in a video conference. Later, he went to AMRI hospital, also at Salt Lake, to see an ailing Jyoti Basu, again by a taxi.

Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy Farooq Abdullah told Home Minister P. Chidambaram to reconsider the continuation of the ban on pre-paid mobile services in Jammu and Kashmir when Chidambaram concluded his day-long visit to the state on Wednesday night, officials said.
