At least nine more people have succumbed to Influenza A (H1N1) taking the national toll due to the contagious virus to 789, the union health ministry said Monday.

A 21-year-old woman succumbed to swine flu in Srinagar, becoming the first victim of the H1N1 virus in Jammu and Kashmir. One death each in Rajasthan, Maharashtra and Gujarat during the day took India's toll from the virus to 699, health authorities said here Sunday.

Bangalore reported the first Swine Flu casualty just moments ago, taking the death toll in India to 20. This is the first time any person died of A H1N1 in Karnataka. A 26-year-old woman, Roopa Anand, who was admitted to St. Philomena's Hospital in Bangalore on Sunday, died today.
