The Sensex pared all its gains and fell into the negative terrain as the IIP (index of industrial production) numbers were below expectations. Banking, healthcare and realty stocks decllined, while consumer durables, IT and power stocks gained. Profit-booking also dragged the index down, seen among the frontliners.

The Sensex continues to trade in the negative terrain on selling witnessed in select frontliners. Banking, oil & gas and IT stocks led the declines, while auto stocks edged higher.
BSE Midcap index declined 0.13%, while Smallcap index rose 0.46%.

Jaiprakash Associates Ltd. India’s biggest builder of dams, and Infrastructure Development & Finance Co. (IDFC) rose in Mumbai after the National Stock Exchange added their shares to the benchmark S&P CNX Nifty Index.

India’s benchmark stock index rose, led by Reliance Industries Ltd. after it said it will give investors a free share for each held for the first time in 12 years.

The Shanghai Composite Index .SSEC ended down 1.73 percent at 3,239.568 points, its lowest close in more than one week.The index has pulled back over the past two days after rallying to the top of a range between 3,100 and 3,350 points
