It looks like it’s going to be a long night in Maine, where results are just beginning to trickle in on the state referendum that would repeal a state law permitting same-sex marriage.

Jharkhand- The Election Commission of India has declared the Jharkhand Assembly election results 2009. These are the results of the general elections that have been held been in the state after four years. It had not been held for all these years as the state, that had been separated from Bihar in the year 2009, could not secure the number of votes that are required for a party to gain majority. As a result, the state had witnessed a lot of brokering of seats and votes of the political parties, but Jharkhand had mostly been under the rule of the Governor.

Members of the state's congressional delegation have earmarked money for more than 200 pet projects as part of a huge $410 billion spending measure nearing final action in Congress, a Baltimore Sun analysis shows. Earmarks by Maryland lawmakers from both political parties would funnel more than $200 million to projects in every corner of the state.

The state Assembly passed legislation Tuesday night that would allow same-sex marriages in New York , but the measure faces an uncertain future in the state Senate.The Democratic-led Assembly voted 89-52 after nearly four hours of debate on whether New York should join five other states in allowing gay couples to receive marriage licenses.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Tuesday won five of the eight Karnataka assembly constituencies where by-elections had been held and realised its dream of ruling a southern state on its own. The Janata Dal-Secular (JD-S) bagged three seats, while the other main opposition Congress drew a blank.

The BJP candidates won from Hukkeri, Arabhavi, Karwar, Devadurga, and Doddaballapur while the JD-S emerged victorious in Maddur, Madhugiri and Turuvekere.

By a margin of 51 to 41, the North Dakota House on Tuesday voted to approve a measure that establishes legal rights for humans from the moment of conception in an effort that may challenge Roe v. Wade. The measure, similar to proposals in four other states, now moves to the North Dakota Senate for review.
