Swine flu crossed new borders Tuesday with the first confirmed cases in the Middle East and the Asia-Pacific region , while the number of U.S. cases jumped to 68 and Mexico ordered restaurants to only serve takeout as a way to limit large public gatherings.Meanwhile, world health officials in Geneva were concerned that the virus appears to be establishing itself in communities and be able to produce larger outbreaks outside Mexico, possibly causing a flu pandemic.

Egypt began slaughtering the roughly 300,000 pigs in the country Wednesday as a precautionary measure against the spread of swine flu even though no cases have been reported here yet, the Health Ministry said.

The United States has 2,532 confirmed cases of the new H1N1 swine influenza in 44 states, and three deaths, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said on Sunday.

No deaths due to swine flu occurred today but 169 new cases of the disease was reported from across the country with the maximum number being from Kerala.

Another seven people with swine flu in Wales have died, taking the total number of deaths to 21.

Seven more students in the Indian city of Jalandhar have tested positive for swine flu raising the total number of those infected in the country to 30.
