Rain played spoilsport and prevented India from scoring an emphatic victory in the third and final test match against New Zealand at Wellington. Chasing a victory target of 617, New Zealand were 281/8 when rain stopped play. Match was later abandoned due to rain and draw was the final result.

Tendulkar, the highest scorer in Test history, made 160 to lift India to 520 all out, a first-innings lead of 241 runs. He then caught Tim McIntosh at slip to give Zaheer Khan his 200th Test wicket before New Zealand slumped to 75-3 at stumps.
