The startup programs can be disabled in Windows XP in the following way. Select Start -> Run. In the text box type 'msconfig' and click on ok. In the System Configuration Utility, click on the startup tab. Here you can uncheck the programs which you want to stop running during the startup. Finally click on ok and restart the computer.
