Select a song in the iTunes and preview it. Right click on the song and click on the Get Info option. You need to set the length of the song, by selecting 'start time' and 'end time' and then click on ok. Now click on the advanced tab at the top of the screen and choose the AAC version from the menu. A shortened version of the original song is displayed. Now right click on the music clip you have created and select the Show in Windows Explorer option. The file is seen on the hard drive with an .m4a extension. Now you need to rename the extension to .m4r in order to make it a ringtone. Now double click the file in Windows Explorer and the iTunes will convert it into a ringtone.
