An oil platform exploded and caught fire Thursday off the Louisiana coast, spreading a mile-long oil sheen into the Gulf of Mexico. All 13 crew members were rescued from the water in their protective "Gumby suits."

Sixteen members of a marriage party, including 13 women, were killed when the van they were travelling in collided with a lorry at Palacode near Dharmapuri, Tamil Nadu on Wednesday night, police said.
