The film is a modern-day take on Devdas and stars Abhay Deol as Devdas, Mahi Gill as Paro, Kalki as Chandramukhi and Dibyendu Bhattacharya.

Unlike the classic, in which Devdas is projected as the ultimate lover because he chooses to drive himself to destruction on losing his love, in Dev D Devdas is projectd as a weak kneed loser who cannot stand up of himself and instead drowns in self-pity. He surfs porn sites and sex chat on the net.
