Mukesh Ambani replaces Lakshmi Mittal as richest Indian in Forbes World Billionaire list
Petrochemicals giant Reliance Industries’ chief Mukesh Ambani has clinched the title of the world’s richest Indian from NRI steel tycoon Lakshmi Mittal, even as both of them saw their fortunes dwindle to less than half in a year, US magazine Forbes has said.
With a net worth of $19.5 billion, Mukesh Ambani has been ranked seventh in the global list, topped by software czar and Microsoft founder Bill Gates ($40 billion). Mukesh, who has lost more than $23 billion, was ranked at fifth position last year.

Recession Hits Forbes Billionaires List 2009
Even billionaires are feeling the pinch of the recession.Forbes released their Billionaires List Wednesday evening, including the world’s youngest plutocrats. The magazine’s Web site reported that the elite club of billionaires under 40 is a lot smaller this year. The average age of the world’s 20 youngest billionaires is 35 this year, up from last year’s average of 32.
