On Tuesday’s American Idol, the Top 9 contestants were given the liberty to pick any song as long as it’s a popular download on iTunes.Kris Allen likes taking old songs and making them contemporary.

Accompanied by a string section, he sang “Ain’t No Sunshine” by Bill Withers, ditching the guitar for the keyboards.I have to admit that he delivered this time. The song came across emotional and moving.

"Don't touch that dial!"Kris is playing his guitar as always, in a boy scoutish uniform. Wow, great, slowed-down intro; he's having a lot of fun with the song, working the crowd a bit. And those facial expressions--really emotive.
